Global Study Highlights Food and Drink Plastics as Major Marine Litter Source
A recent global overview reveals that plastic food packaging, caps, and bottles are the most prevalent forms of marine litter across 112 nations, raising concerns about environmental impacts.
A comprehensive study has found that plastic items related to food and drink are the leading contributors to marine litter worldwide. This research, which analyzed data from 112 countries, highlights the pervasive nature of this issue.
Among the most frequently encountered items on coastlines are plastic food wrappers, bottles, lids, and caps. Alarmingly, 93% of the surveyed nations reported the presence of plastic litter on their shores.
The findings underscore the urgent need for global action to address plastic pollution, particularly as discussions at the United Nations regarding this issue have reportedly stalled.
